The Truancy Assistant will assist with the prevention and intervention of attendance issues for grades 1 – 12, as follows:  identify students at risk for truancy or school attendance problems; make home visits or community contacts to provide appropriate intervention in truancy matters. 


Screening Procedures:

  • Receipt of a completed application, resume and cover letter
  • A minimum of three current written letters of reference
  • Personal interview


Minimum Requirement:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred experience in an urban school setting.
  • Required Act 34, 141 and FBI clearances, physical and proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. 

Ideal Candidate will demonstrate the following and/or have experience with:

  • A commitment to success for all of the Chester Upland students and specifically to raising the academic achievement while paying attention to the importance of attendance of all the children in this district
  • Must understand Truancy Law in the State of Pennsylvania and the Chester Upland School District Policy and Procedure
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Requires home visits
  • Must be able to reach parents by phone calls, emails, letters and home visits
  • An ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • An ability to critically assess challenges and identify effective solutions to support the successful attendance of each student
  • Able to help parents understand the consequences or lack of choices available as a result of not attending school
  • Flexible optimistic approach; committed to overcoming challenges; comfortable with ambiguity
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong working knowledge of technology used to differentiate instruction for students.
